Eskrima Diagonal Slash Technique

Slash technique is one of the most useful long range strikes in Eskrima.   As the name suggests, slash are used with edged weapons as a means of cutting or slicing through, however, it can also be utilized using impact weapons.

Slash strikes almost always maintains a follow-thru nature, it can be used on different planes such as the diagonal, horizontal and vertical planes. The diagonal slash strike can be further divided into forward diagonal slash and reverse diagonal slash.  Both forward and reverse diagonal slashes can be done using an inward or forehand slashing movement and outward or backhand slashing movement.

By inward, we mean, the hand direction is going in the body on a forehand arms position and ending in a close fighting position, while by outward, we mean, the hand is going out of the body on a backhand arms position and ending in an open fighting position.

In this video we will look at diagonal slashes and how it can be applied in long range as a means of parrying an incoming attack.  This technique is what we call as the weapon parrying technique.
