The intercept block is one of the most utilized form of blocking technique in Arnis. As the name of this blocking technique suggests, an incoming strike is stopped by intercepting it along its path thus the strike is diverted much like a parry, but only, using the weapon hand rather than the live hand. The attack is normal diverted to the side giving the defender enough window to execute a counter attack.
Intercept can be considered as a long range Arnis blocking technique since it needs distance to be executed properly. It is commonly done in a form of a forward diagonal slash or reverse diagonal slashes together with evasive footwork and body movement.
Intercept is also an active block since the focus is more on striking as in the case of striking against the stick when a strike is launched, thereby it can also be called as “strike against strike”
