Defanging the Snake

“Defanging the snake” is a technique used in Arnis to effectively contain and stop an incoming weapon attack.  The concept is simple, directly destroy the hands by hitting it and thereby containing the attack.

This technique comes in other names such as “displacement”, by that, we mean instead of hitting the weapon or stick to block, you “displace” the block to hit the hands instead.

Another term that is commonly used is “praksyon” or fraction, the terms derives from the speed that is used to deliver the defanging strike, that is, a fraction of a section.  These means that in order to it the hands when an attack is deployed, you should hit faster than the attacker.

In this video, we will look at “defanging the snake” or displacement through a simple Arnis drill.
